Air France UMNR Policy Policy
When children travel alone, ensuring their safety, comfort, and the peace of mind of parents and guardians becomes a top priority. The dedicated Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service by Air France provides personalized assistance to minors traveling alone throughout their journey.
The "Kids Solo" service is mandatory for children aged 4 to 11 years traveling alone within Metropolitan France and select regions.
The "Kids Solo" service applies to international flights for children aged 5 to 14 years.
Upon request, teenagers aged 15 to 17 years can also benefit from the "Kids Solo" service.
An Unaccompanied Minor ticket can be booked online for all Air France-operated flights. The "unaccompanied minor" form should be completed during the booking process.
If your child falls within the specified Air France age to fly alone range, the Air France app can be used for booking. Ensure the indication that your child will be traveling alone is made, and don't forget to complete the "unaccompanied minor" form.
Note: The availability of the "Kids Solo" service is subject to capacity. If capacity is reached onboard, the service may be unavailable.
Before your child's departure, obtaining all necessary travel documents, including visas, passports, and required vaccinations, is essential. The Air France Unaccompanied Minor form should be completed online to simplify check-in and avoid last-minute stress. This form will be required at check-in.
If your child or an unaccompanied minor is traveling on an Air France flight to the United States, they’re required to provide a Declaration Form upon arrival.
The resumption of the chaperone service for unaccompanied minors has occurred across most of the network. Expect the following:
1. One Connection: Airports offering connecting flights in France include Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Paris-Orly (ORY), and Lyon (LYS). Connections to and from China are possible via Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) since September 6, 2023.
2. Two Connections: Currently, the only routes with two connections are to and from Noumea. These connections are available through airports like Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Tokyo (NRT), and Singapore (SIN), passing through several countries.
Please be aware that transfers between Paris-Orly (ORY) and Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) are unavailable.
Children traveling alone should check in either:
1. Online: 30 hours before departure through the website, where you will receive a confirmation document to present at the check-in counter.
2. At the Check-In Counter: On the day of departure, plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the flight's check-in closes. The check-in deadline is indicated on your child's ticket.
Please check in any baggage that your child may not be able to carry on their own. At the check-in counter, you will be informed about where and when Air France staff will collect your child. After your child boards the aircraft, a text message confirming their flight's departure will be sent to you, allowing you to leave the airport.
Check the Air France Check-in Policy.
During the flight, special care will be taken by the cabin crew to ensure your child's comfort and safety. On international flights, your child can enjoy games, movies, cartoons, and even meditation programs designed for kids and adults. Gifts and treats will be provided to make the journey even more enjoyable.
If your child has a tablet or smartphone, starting 30 hours before the flight, a range of magazines for young people can be downloaded using the Air France Play app.
Upon arrival, your child will be the last to leave the aircraft. Air France staff members will accompany them to the arrival area to meet the designated pickup person. The designated pickup person will receive a text message with the aircraft's estimated arrival time. They must present a valid ID card or passport with a clear photo. Depending on the airport, your child will either have already collected their baggage or will do so with the designated pickup person at the destination.
Children and young people under 16 traveling from the UK are exempt from paying the UK airport tax, also known as Air Passenger Duty. This exemption applies automatically.
