American Airlines Flight Change Policy - 24-Hour Change

As per the American Airlines flight change policy, you can change your American Airlines flight within 24 hours of booking and at least 7 days before the scheduled departure time. The eligibility and extent of changes will vary depending on the type of ticket purchased, but no change fee will be charged. You will only have to pay the differential fare amount applicable on the new ticket.

• The American Airlines change fee has been eliminated for both short-haul and long-haul domestic & international flights, regardless of the ticket type, except Basic Economy
• Refundable tickets can be changed with no penalty, but non-refundable tickets require a fee in accordance to the American Airlines flight change policy
• If the new flight fare is higher than the original fare, you’ll be required to pay the differential amount. If the new fare is lower, American Airlines will provide a refund as travel credit
• You can change their seats multiple times with no extra charge
• If you want to fly on an earlier flight than your scheduled departure, you can do so on standby
• These updated American Airlines flight change policy applies to all types of tickets, including the award tickets

Special Condition - American Airlines Change Fee Waiver For Non-Refundable Tickets

You may be able to change your non-refundable American Airlines flight for free under any of the special circumstances stated below: 

• Flight changes due to weather 
• Death in the family
• Military operation
• Personal illness or injury

If eligible, the airline can waive the American Airlines change fee and provide you with a travel credit, valid for one year from the original booking date.

American Airlines Flight Change Policy - Same Day Change

• If you’re flying domestic with American Airlines, you have the option to make a same-day flight change by paying $75 American Airlines change fee for a confirmed booking. This fee  will be refundable if your booking goes on a standby status
• If you’re traveling with a First class or Business class ticket, you are eligible for a free same day flight change. American Airlines Platinum Pro Elite, Executive Platinum, one companion on the same booking, and AirPass ticket holders are also waived from American Airlines flight change fee

2. Click on "My Trips" at the top of the homepage
3. Enter your booking details and click "Find Reservation"
4. Select your flight and click on "Change flight"
5. Pick a new flight and proceed to pay the differential amount, if any
6. You will receive your updated itinerary and booking details on your registered email address

American Airlines Change Flight Fee Booked With Miles

• If you have reserved an award flight in economy class, you will be charged $150 as your American Airlines change fee
• If you’d like to redeposit your points back into your account, you will be charged $150
• For Business Class and First Class reservations, American Airlines change flight fee is $200 and $300, respectively

How to Change the Date on Your American Airlines Ticket?

Under the date change policy, American Airlines allows passengers to change their flight date within 24 hours of the original ticket purchase without incurring any American Airlines change fee.

2. Click on "My Trips" at the top of the homepage
3. Enter your booking details and click "Find Reservation"
4. Select your flight, and click on the "View/Change" option
5. Pick another flight date that suits your preference and proceed to pay the differential amount, if any
6. Click on "Change Trip" to change your American Airlines flight

How to Change Your Name On Your American Airlines Ticket?

American Airlines does not allow changing the name on your flight ticket. However, passengers can request a name change due to a misspelling or a legal name change. 

Subject to approval of your legal documentation as proof of change, American Airlines change fee for changing your name on the ticket can range from $200 to $300. No change fee will be applicable if the name change is made within 24 hours of booking
