Check Unaccompanied Minor Policy
JetBlue provides a unique service for children between 5 and under 14 years old traveling alone. The Jetblue Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR) policy ensures their safe and convenient travel experience.
Jetblue minor policy is obligatory for kids aged between 5 and under 14. Once a child reaches their 14th birthday and travels solo, they are no longer considered an unaccompanied minor and must be booked as an adult. Still, customers can request additional support under such conditions.
To ensure safety, JetBlue limits the number of unaccompanied minors on each flight to three. The travel for unaccompanied minors can be booked with an automatic application of a $150 per-person, per-way fee added to the total price at the time of booking.
Please note that currently, unaccompanied minors cannot travel on JetBlue flights to and from the U.K./Europe.
To book a seat on a JetBlue flight, go to JetBlue Reservations and pick the flight.
The Unaccompanied Minoer Form, available online, should be filled out before travel. You should print three copies of the completed form for each flight and bring them to the airport. This form will require the name of the person dropping off and picking up the child, as it appears on their photo ID.
The adult dropping off and picking up the unaccompanied minor must present a photo ID. The minimum age for the adult picking up an unaccompanied minor is 18 years old, and they must have a valid ID. Gate passes, though subject to TSA’s discretion and security recommendations, can be checked for availability at the JetBlue airport ticket counter.
The guardian/parent must carry three copies of the UMNR form. They must have their name, address, and cell phone number documented on the unaccompanied minor’s reservation. The guardian/parent should stay at the airport until the flight has departed.
The guardian/parent picking up the minor should arrive at the airport at least 30 minutes before the flight's scheduled arrival time. They must also have their name, address, and cell phone number documented on the UMNR's reservation.
Unaccompanied minors are permitted only on nonstop flights. They are not allowed on connecting flights or direct flights (a flight that stops but doesn't change aircraft). JetBlue doesn't provide any escort for unaccompanied minors to flights connecting with other airlines.
For international travel, every country has specific documentation requirements. Customers are responsible for knowing these requirements and providing the necessary documentation. Unaccompanied minors cannot travel on JetBlue flights to and from U.K./Europe.
Unaccompanied minors are seated at the back of the aircraft, in the last row (Seats ABC) for easier assistance by the inflight crew. They may not occupy Mint® or Even More® Space seats. Furthermore, unaccompanied minors, even when booked on a Blue Basic fare, are always allowed to carry-on bag.
Check the JetBlue Check-in policy for check-in requirements.
Check the JetBlue Baggage policy for baggage allowances on your flight booking.
Children between the ages of 2 and 13 have the option to travel with another passenger who is at least 14 years old. In this case, the child is not considered as an "Unaccompanied Minor" by the airline.
Age Group | Unaccompanied Minor Status | Policy |
---|---|---|
Under 5 years | Not allowed to travel alone | Must be accompanied by an individual at least 14 years old |
5 to 14 years | Mandatory Unaccompanied Minor Service | Only non-stop flights allowed |
15 to 17 years | Optional Unaccompanied Minor Service | Non-stop and connecting flights allowed |
The significant advantage here is that the unaccompanied minor fee is completely waived off if the child is traveling with another customer, even if this person is on a separate reservation. This means, as long as the child is accompanied by a passenger who is 14 years or older, the additional service fee of $25 per person is not applicable.
This policy is beneficial for those who can arrange for an older companion for their child during the flight, as it substantially reduces the cost of travel.
The Unaccompanied Minor Service includes amenities to keep your child comfortable and engaged during the flight. The service fee is in addition to the ticket price and is non-refundable.
Service Fee | Inclusions |
---|---|
$150 (each way) | Escort service during boarding and deplaning, in-flight amenities (snacks, entertainment), and supervision during the flight |
